THE GALLURA TERRITORY

Coddu Ecchju lies at the centre of a web of ancient rural connections and more recent routes between the sea and the Gallura hinterland, in an area now given to agriculture and vineyards that preserves important archaeological evidence.

LA PRISGIONA

La Prisgiona was an important productive settlement of Bronze Age Gallura, today one of the main Nuragic complexes of northern Sardinia. It stands at Arzachena, in the Capichera area, on a fertile plain between granite outcrops and water springs. Built with large local granite blocks, its original core is a trilobate nuraghe; around it grew a village of about one hundred huts, with workshops and storage spaces, including the Hut of Meetings. Grindstones, pestles, bone objects and bronze and terracotta artefacts document an economy based on agriculture, herding and craft.

ALBUCCIU NURAGHE

The Albucciu nuraghe was one of the main centres of political and territorial organisation of Nuragic Gallura. Unlike the more widespread tower nuraghi, Albucciu is a corridor nuraghe, built by exploiting a granite outcrop, as typical of Gallura Nuragic architecture. The complex combines a village, funerary monuments and places of worship. The Aegean-Cypriot copper ingots found there indicate that the community took part in a Mediterranean exchange network.
